A suicide bomber blew himself up at Brussels airport killing at least 16 people and a further blast tore through a rush-hour metro train in the capital shortly afterwards, claiming 15 lives, according to public broadcaster VRT.
Atleast 55 injured in a blast on the Brussels metro in Maelbeek, public transport operator STIB said.
The cause of the explosions is unknown and some reports from the scene speak of casualties.

The terror threat level in Belgium has been raised to four, its highest level. Raising the threat level to four means authorities can deploy the army onto the streets to meet security needs, CNN reports.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said France has stepped up security following news of the attacks.
