#TwitterDown: when a social network fails, hilarity ensues

Tuesday wasn't a good day for Twitter. For two and a half hours today, social media addicts globally had to live without their fix as Twitter saw its second outage in days.

The website said 'something is technically wrong' and the company didn't immediately provide any further details, leaving users unclear when the rantfest could return to normal. This is, in fact, Twitter's 4th outage in the past three weeks. #DefinitelyNotUsual.

The network wasn't consistently down for all users, though, which means there were mixed reports about whether the site was accessible on mobile, tablet or the laptop. Those who couldn't access it naturally did the next best thing: they went to Facebook to vent about Twitter. Those who could access it? They did the even more predictable - announce #TwitterDown on Twitter.

Which meant irony got an extended outing as during the peak of the downtime, #TwitterDown was the top Twitter trend in most social-obsessed cities around the world.

How, you may ask? Well, these people have the same question as well:

The on and then off, then on and off again nature of #TwitterDown meant there was scope to provide hilarity to those who could access the site.
