In a star-studded opening ceremony that will see international music group Major Lazer perform, the Indian Premier League will be given wings for the ninth successive year in Mumbai tomorrow, hot on the success trail of the recently concluded ICC World T20.
But while Indian fans would have found it hard to secure tickets during the World Cup, the IPL promises to bring the whole cricketing experience far closer to home, as the tournament goes on for a longer duration and also features more matches.
With the first match set to be played on 9 April, the tournament will go on until 29 May, with 60 matches to be played in a space of 50 days. They don't call it the cricket carnival for nothing!
