It's the hug heard around the world. What a world away from the last time Taylor Swift and Kanye West were on the VMA stage together. Taylor, the world is your friendship oyster. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/MTV1415/FilmMagic
Kanye West won the Video Vanguard award, inspired this Black power salute from Jaden Smith and gave a both powerful and confusing 14-minute speech. At the end of which - this is true - he declared his run for presidency in 2020. Whoa. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/MTV1415/FilmMagic/Twitter
Miley's antics through the night are worthy of another piece altogether, but this cannon between her legs moment, courtesy The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne had us flabbergasted. What will she do next? Oh that's right - surprise-drop an album the same night for free. Your move, world. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/MTV1415/FilmMagic
Taylor, Kanye, Miley: all the madness from the MTV Video Music Awards
India woke up Monday morning to the hashtag #KanyeforPresident. Trying to backtrack from there to understand what exactly happened at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards has been an experience both baffling and terrifying.
The night's events are likely to be talked about as much as that infamous Madonna-Britney liplock, or that first Taylor Swift-Kanye West moment.
So much happened Sunday night at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater, and yet there was so much left wanting (no Kanye performance? Where was Kendrick Lamar? Rihanna didn't end up dropping an album after all?).
Taylor Swift ruled the night. Miley Cyrus was expectedly ridiculous. Nicki Minaj threw major shade at Cyrus. Thankfully, we've got you covered. Here are the biggest talking points from the awards, in images. [Remember to turn on the captions.]
If you couldn't get enough of Miley's costumes, here's a look at all the crazy looks from the night.
